Ellen Tauscher for Congress

Tauscher Policy: Transportation

As the senior Northern California member on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I am working to repair California’s infrastructure and reduce congestion. Today, Californians encounter the worst traffic in the nation. Congestion prevents us from spending quality time with our families and hurts the economy by preventing goods movement.

I believe we must take a fresh look at the federal government’s investment in our transportation infrastructure. That is why that investment must include funds to improve mass transit. With gas fast approaching $5 a gallon, Californians need an option to get out of their cars. That's why I have worked to bring back funding for the Altamont Commuter Rail (ACE Train) and to build a parking structure in Livermore for ACE Train commuters. I also helped bring home funding for improvements to AC Transit and the Fairfield/Vacaville Intermodal Station and to provide vans to County Connection to make transit services more accessible to everyone. I was also instrumental in securing funding to complete BART to SFO and am working to extend BART to Antioch and Livermore.

Overall an increased investment by all forms of government is necessary to repair our crumbling infrastructure and prepare for increased demand. I am proud to have delivered, so far, more than $119 million in transportation dollars for my constituents, no only in mass transit, but in widening funds for Highway 4, the Greenville Road improvement project in Livermore and the Sunol Grade in Alameda County. This year I am working to secure more federal funding for the 80/680 interchange in Solano County.
